Snow leads to delayed flights but runway now open

Tuesday 09 January 2024

Flights have been delayed after Jersey Airport runway was closed due to snowfall earlier this morning.

Ports of Jersey announced at around 10:30 that the runway had been examined and was now open.

The latest update at 10:00 said that snow ploughs were still working to clear the runway. Passengers were being urged to check in as usual.

Flights to London Heathrow and Gatwick as well as Southampton and Guernsey have been so far unable to depart.

The Airport's social media account issued a statement at 08:30 which said that teams were currently de-icing the runway.

The statement continued: "We will update here. Please travel with care if heading to the airport, allowing extra time for your journey.

"You should check in as usual for your flight."

An additional statement at 09:30 added: "The runway is still closed as we continue to assess the situation. An update will be given after 10am."

Orange snow warnings have been issued this morning by Jersey Met, with snow expected to continue throughout the day.
