Something to be proud of in the run-up to Pride

Thursday 30 July 2015

Equality pressure group Liberate have put together a video to promote the Island's first ever "Pride" event, and it's already been viewed well over a thousand times.

The video, which was produced and directed by Liberate Jersey’s Vice-Chair Stacey Yates, has been released on social media to promote the first Pride event to be held in Jersey on 12th September 2015 - it features members of the LGBTQ community, their friends, families, colleagues and partners telling the camera exactly who and what they are proud of.

Chair of Liberate in Jersey, Christian May, said: “The concept, filming and production of “I’m Proud” was a truly community effort; all those who feature in the film gave their time freely (and were very keen to do so) and the production by Stacey Yates, Simon Edwards and Marc Mitchell was free of charge, as was the filming location provided by The Green Rooster.

“The film demonstrates what is fantastic about our Islands communities; that people are passionate, supportive, and ready to be vocal about equality in the Islands. We hope that Islanders in Guernsey and Jersey will share the video and tell us what makes them most proud.”

The Pride event begins at Wests Centre at 12.45pm on Saturday 12th September and will travel through St Helier to Weighbridge Square for 1.30pm where there will be a speeches and the raising of the Pride and Island flags.

From 2 pm, there will be live music and family friendly entertainment in Weighbridge Square and adjoining businesses, including the Jersey premiere of a recently-released independent movie and live cabaret entertainment later in the evening.
