Spice up your life this weekend

Returning for its sixth year, family-friendly and community event Spice Arts & Music Festival is back on Grouville Common for another creativity-fuelled weekend.

Organisers Bianca Padidar and Sarah Jordan, who both come from a visual arts and teaching background, set up Spice as a charity as a result of their passion to promote and showcase local creative talent in the Island.

Originally set up as a platform for local designers, makers and small businesses to showcase their work, Spice now involves artists from a range of disciplines including dancers, musicians and actors.

Speaking about how the festival has evolved over the years and the introduction of new elements to the festival, Ms Jordan said: “This is a really important aspect of Spice as many of the visitors have been coming since it began and their support is vital to its continued success.”

Spice has also acted as the starting point for a number of educational and outreach projects where students and the public have collaborated together to learn new skills and create their own work.

Open from 10:00am - 19:00pm on Saturday and 10:00am - 18:00pm on Sunday, visitors will be able to buy products by local artists and business owners, as well as a range of Genuine Jersey produce and a variety of food and drink.

The festival line up is packed with entertainment for both adults and children. There will be music from Gleasemore, Lauren Ivy and the Machine, Serkeidian, Rat Salad, Attic Preacher, Willie Brown and many more.

Children will be able to partake in a range of performance or art-based interactive workshops, listen to storytelling from Jersey Festival of Words or watch breakdancing by Total Mayhem and a performance by Jersey Capoeira.
