Spring sprung warmer weather

The latest figures show we've had a sunnier than average spring this year - and it's been drier and warmer than normal too!

Jersey Met says the average temperature in Jersey in March, April and May was 11.5 degrees and we saw just over 666 hours of sunshine.

Senior Meteorologist Paul Aked said last month was slightly cooler than normal at 13.4 degrees, just below the 13.5 degree average – and May was only the second in the last 18 months to have temperatures just below average.

February was the other month that was a bit chillier than normal - at 6.3 degrees, just below the 6.5 degree average. 

But this year's sunny spring doesn't guarantee we're in for a hotter summer too.

Mr Aked said: "There does not appear to be a clear, direct correlation between a warmer, drier and sunnier Spring being followed by a warmer, sunnier and drier Summer.

Looking at the records for temperature, a warmer than average spring is just as likely to be followed by a cooler than average summer as a warmer than average summer. Looking at the sunshine records we see similar results, a sunnier spring is just as likely to be followed by a sunnier than average summer as a duller than average summer."
