Road safety improvements are to be made in St. Ouen's Village after residents complained of drivers ignoring the road traffic law and parking on bus stops.
New crossing arrangements in the area's shopping zone were recently approved during a parish assembly meeting.
The parish said the new scheme came as a result of joint working with the Growth, Housing and Environment (GHE) Department to make the centre of the village safer fo all cars and pedestrians.
Suggested improvements included:
Removing the pelican crossing which is no longer in the right place and has safety issues
Installing a zebra crossing, with a central island in the road, on the desire line for pedestrians
Widening the footpaths by re-allocating the road space and removing the bus lay-bys with includes measures to avoid vehicles parking too near the crossing and creating a hazard
Providing a bus shelter by the shops
The plans - which came following numerous face-to-face and online meetings between officials - were approved on 12 June by parishioners.
Constable Richard Buchanan chaired the parish meeting, which was also attended by Minister for Infrastructure Deputy Kevin Lewis, and GHE Director for Transport Tristan Dodd.

Following the meeting, Constable Buchanan commented: "The Parish have had numerous complaints regarding road safety in the area, particularly with drivers ignoring the road traffic law and parking in the bus stops. The Parish have worked together with GHE to develop a scheme to improve the area and make it safer for all who use the village facilities.
"I feel these works will be a real improvement and will create a better environment for all users of the area and following approval by the parish assembly there is the opportunity for the work to move forward soon."
