A whole host of stars are flying in to help raise over £100K for local mums-to-be and their babies.
Dame Barbara Windsor, Tallia Storm, Shaun Rankin, Elizabeth Emanuel and Nick Owen will all be here at the weekend to launch the big Baby Bean Appeal.
They will be the star guests at a big fundraiser at the Radisson Blue Waterfront Hotel on Saturday night when organisers hope to raise £105,000 for wireless foetal monitors for Jersey's General Hospital's Maternity Unit.
These monitors will give mums greater freedom of movement during labour, especially those with high risk pregnancies, greatly increasing the chance of a normal birth and a positive birthing experience for both mums and their families.
The event has been organised by Baby Lifeline - the national charity that supports pregnant women and newborn babies all over the world and is being supported locally by Philip's Footprints, the charity that promotes safer pregnancies and Friends of SCBU.
Founder of Baby Lifeline Judy Ledger said: “The reality is the UK has one of the highest neonatal mortality rates in Europe with one in every 216 births in 2013 being a still birth and one in 370 babies dying within the first 4 weeks in life.
"We are a unique charity dedicated to the support of pregnant women and their unborn babies and from our research and 35-year track record, we know that effective fetal monitoring in labour is one of the key elements of care designed to tackle stillbirth and early neonatal death.
"There is a shortage of this vital equipment in Jersey and we’re delighted to launch this campaign. If we can raise our target this will enable us to buy 5 wireless foetal monitors for Jersey’s maternity unit and that would be amazing.”
The glittering gala on Saturday is being supported by Savills, Le Gallais and Luce, Milton Investment and Hartmann House.
Director for Savills Jersey Geri O’Brien said: “We’re delighted to be the headline sponsor for this exciting appeal for such vital equipment. Baby Lifeline has great legacy of raising funds to support the UK wide maternity sector and we’re so pleased to help bring their expertise and skills to Jersey mum’s. All the monies raised in Jersey will stay in Jersey and that’s why this is just so important.”
