Sudden death of 40-year-old cyclist

Thursday 23 April 2015

A 40-year-old man has collapsed and died while riding his bike past the Co-op Locale in St Peter.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident yesterday evening, which is not being treated as suspicious by the police.

The man has not yet been named by police.

At around 6.50 pm the man was cycling past the Co-op Locale at Beaumont, when he was seen to slow to a stop and then collapse on to the ground.

He was helped by members of the public who saw what had happened and then taken to Accident and Emergency, but died.

A police statement this morning said: “At around 7pm last night the States of Jersey Police were called to the unexplained death of a 40-year-old male cyclist on La Grande Route de St Pierre in the area of the Co-op Locale.

“No other vehicles are believed to have been involved and the death is not being treated as suspicious, nor as a road traffic collision. A file is now being prepared for the Deputy Viscount.

“The road was closed for a couple of hours and the police wish to thank the public for their patience and co-operation during the closure.”
