A taste of Jersey in Paris

Tuesday 17 February 2015

There will be something more local than a French fancy at one of the world’s largest agricultural shows next weekend.

Visitors to the 2015 Salon International de l’Agriculture in Paris can get a taste of what the Island has to offer and tuck in to a Genuine Jersey cream tea.

As well as homemade scones, jam and clotted cream the Normandy / Jersey stand will also be serving cocktails with Jersey aperitifs and looking to promote the Island and its produce to a mass audience.

Economic Development Minister Senator Lyndon Farnham said: “Last year, the Paris show attracted nearly 700,000 visitors and is considered to be one of the key events in French political circles so it’s an excellent opportunity to build awareness of Jersey as a tourist destination and to promote Jersey produce and identify possible export opportunities.”

The Island’s famous spud, wines and spirits from La Mare Wine Estate and hand-crafted local beers from Liberation Brewery will also be on display on the Jersey stand as well as La Robeline Cider and local apple brandy.

Last year Jersey and Normandy signed a three-year agreement to work together at the show.

Minister for External Relations Senator Sir Philip Bailhache said: “We are delighted to be joining La Manche again at one of France’s most prestigious agricultural shows. It’s indicative of our firm and enduring commitment to the relationship Jersey enjoys with Normandy and to continuing efforts to sustain our important political, economic and cultural links with France.”

The show runs between 21 February and 1 March.
