Friday 15 June 2018

Police are hunting a man who allegedly launched a tirade of racist abuse at a man in a turban, and other members of the public, in town this week.

The alleged verbal assaults were reported to have taken place between 17:30 and 18:30 on Wednesday.

Described as unshaven with short dark hair and with a tattoo under his eye, the man was witnessed “abusing members of the public” on King Street, outside M&S and Clinton Cards.

He was said to have been shouting “racist remarks”, particularly targeting a man wearing a turban who was walking towards Sand Street.

The perpetrator is believed to be in his late 30s to mid 40s.

Police are now seeking information on the alleged incident and are urging members of the public to get in touch on 612612. Anonymous reports can also be made via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
