Teen in 'Scream' mask assaulted man

Serious Crime Unit detectives are investigating after a teenage girl wearing a ‘Scream’ mask and an accomplice assaulted a man while attempting to steal money from him.

A 17-year-old girl was arrested in connection with the attempted robbery, and has since been released on Police bail.

The incident, which involved two girls, occurred on Sunday night between 22:45 and 23:00 in the first lay-by on Victoria Avenue.

Police said that the pair did not manage to steal anything from the 55-year-old man, but assaulted him in the process.

Both girls are described as being white with blonde hair and aged between 16 and 18. One of the pair was said to be wearing a mask similar to the one used in the film ‘Scream’ (pictured). She was reported as being around 5”8 tall, wearing jeans and a hooded jumper.

Her accomplice was said to be 5” tall and wearing a white t-shirt.

The attempted robbery is now being handled by Serious Crime Unit detectives, who are appealing for witnesses and information on the incident that may help them identify  the perpetrators.
