Teen arrested and drinks seized after 'antisocial behaviour at Lido'

Monday 17 May 2021

A 13-year-old is on bail after being arrested near the Havre des Pas swimming pool following reports that a group of young people were drinking alcohol and causing a disturbance.

Police officers arrived at the Lido just after 15:00 on Saturday and seized alcohol.

A 13-year-old was arrested nearby and has since been released on bail.

The Police said the arrest followed a report of up to 10 young people, some in possession of alcohol, causing a disturbance near the Havre des Pas swimming pool.

“SoJP continue to patrol Havre des Pas and work with partners to co-ordinate a multi-agency approach to preventing and addressing anti-social behaviour connected with a small group of people,” a spokesperson said.

“Community officers are following up with nearby premises and residents to listen to any concerns and work together to ensure Havre des Pas can be enjoyed peacefully and respectfully.”

The owners of Poolside Jersey, the café based at the Lido, wrote on their Facebook page shortly after the incident to say they were “disappointed, angry and upset” at what they described as an uncontrollable amount of teenage antisocial behaviour that had led them to have to close their doors early.

They said families with children had had to leave because of the “disgusting behaviour”, which they said they would be taking “serious action” to stamp out.

“All of these minors are on cameras drinking alcohol today and hiding in the changing rooms,” the team wrote.

“The Police will be asked to review all of these images and start working with Government of Jersey to put a plan in place to remove these issues that have been increasingly getting worse each year.

“We will no longer accept any of this behaviour. It puts our staff at risk, it scares away families using Lido and enjoying the facilities, they leave a disgusting mess, and it damages our business after over 12 months of horrendous trading.”

They called for the children’s parents to speak to them and for the community to work together to remove the “horrible behaviour” from the Lido.
