Teens to be sentenced over Le Geyt stabbing in June

Monday 27 March 2023

Two teenagers are due to be sentenced in June for attempting to murder a boy in a brutal stabbing attack on Le Geyt Estate last year, which saw the young victim "left for dead" with a knife sticking out of his back.

Alex Diogo Franca De Jesus (19) denied the charge but was convicted by a jury following a Royal Court trial. Jayden Howard (18) had already admitted attempted murder and was not involved in the trial.

Two other teenagers, who cannot be named, had also been accused of grave and criminal assault in relation to the stabbing, but were cleared of the charge.

Both Howard and De Jesus appeared via video link at a Royal Court hearing on Friday to set a sentencing date.

De Jesus was represented by Advocate Rebecca Morley-Kirk, and is due to be sentenced in June.

Howard, represented by Advocate Nicholas Mière, is due to appear for a Newton hearing and sentence on 13 and 14 June.

A Newton hearing takes place when the defendant has pleaded guilty to the offence, but has pleaded guilty to a different version of facts from the prosecution.

Both are due to be sentenced before the Superior Number of the court.

Lieutenant-Bailiff Anthony Olsen was presiding.
