Toddler's death prompts road safety meeting

Wednesday 03 August 2016

How to improve safety measures so another child isn’t killed in a road accident is likely to dominate discussion at a public meeting later tonight.

Friends of the Millennium Park are holding the meeting at the Optimists’ Club, which borders the park, at 19:30, to discuss a host of park-related issues but it’s likely the death of Clinton Pringle will be centre stage.

He was knocked over in June near the pedestrian linkway that joins the park and Belmont Road. And, although he was flown to Southampton Hospital for treatment, later died of his injuries. Since then a petition of more than 3,000 signatures has demanded changes to the road and pavement layout.

There’s been criticism that it’s difficult to distinguish between the pavement, the cycle path, and the road. There’s also been calls for more signs.

Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting.
