Three Islanders are in London today picking up top honours for their exceptional work as volunteers for St John Ambulance.
Mark Wildman, Miranda McGarr and Mandy Hussey are being awarded The Order of St John – an honour approved by the Queen, at a special ceremony in London.
Mr Wildman has been Treasurer of the charity for nine years and is being invested as a Serving Brother. Mrs McGarr has been with the charity for 13 years and is being invested as a Serving sister along with Mrs Hussey who has been a member for 15 years.
The Prior of the Priory of England and the Islands Rodney Green will be presenting them all with the Order’s insignia in the historic Grand Priory Church in Clerkenwell.
Mr Green said: “Mr Wildman, Mrs McGarr and Mrs Hussey are being honoured today in recognition of their dedicated service. They have made an outstanding contribution to St John Ambulance and to their community in Jersey. It is with great pride that I invest them today into the Order of St John.”
Around a hundred people are invested at each of the ceremonies that take place three times of year. Most of them are St John Ambulance volunteers.
Mrs McGarr said: “I am so pleased and proud to be invested within the Order. I never expected to receive such an honour, but to have this recognition of my service is a real privilege.”
