Giant tortoise sculptures have officially taken over the island! Here's your guide to exactly where to find them...

Overnight, a total of 50 models of the reptiles were placed in various parks, wild spaces and coastlines around Jersey – where they will remain until the 31 August.

The giant fibreglass tortoises will join 65 young tortoises that have already been on display since the 16 June, forming Jersey’s largest art trail.

As well as in the July edition of Bailiwick Express's Connect Magazine, official trail maps will also be available at locations across the island such as Jersey Zoo, Jersey Airport, Jersey Harbour, Liberation Bus Station and various hotels.

The trail is was made possible through a partnership with the worldwide public events coordinators Wild in Art.

Ahead of the today's launch, Durrell this week invited the sponsors of the 50 tortoises to a preview evening, hosted by Blue Islands and Ports of Jersey.

Durrell chief executive Dr Lesley Dickie said: "Tortoises have been on earth for millennia, and we want to make sure they continue to have a future, which this trail will help us work towards."

All 115 tortoise sculptures will eventually be placed at the Zoo and available for islanders to see between 14 and 17 September, which will be followed by an auction on 21 September.

It is hoped that funds raised from the auction of the tortoise sculptures will raise enough funds to support the construction of the new tropical house for Durrell’s endangered reptile and amphibian inhabitants.
