Customs and Immigration are “working closely” with UK and French border forces after three Iranian nationals arrived in a small boat on Jersey shores earlier this year, it has been revealed.
The trio of attempted immigrants arrived in Bonne Nuit in the first quarter of this year, but were identified soon after by Jersey Customs and Immigration Officers.
They were subsequently detained before they could travel to the UK, and returned to France.
The Iranian nationals had been in possession of counterfeit Swedish identity cards. Lifejackets and other items suspected to have been used by the Iranian nationals on their journey to Jersey were found by a member of the public in Bonne Nuit earlier this year.
Despite public concerns circulating social media, the States have now moved to reassure islanders.
In a statement, a States spokesperson said that Customs and Immigration had not received, “…any recent reports or intelligence relating to boats being found on the north coast of Jersey.”
“‘The States of Jersey Customs and Immigration Service continues to work closely with colleagues in France and the United Kingdom concerning migrant issues, and the risk remains that migrants in France might attempt to illegally gain entry to the UK via Jersey.”
