Tumble dryer fire badly damages home in St Lawrence

Tuesday 28 June 2016

The utility room of a house in St Lawrence was extensively damaged today after a tumble dryer caught alight.

The fire took hold in a home in Rue de la Fontaine St Martin, near Morel Farm, just after 12.30 pm. Staff at a nearby business tried to put out the fire using portable extinguishers but they were unsuccessful.

Two fire engines with nine firefighters arrived to find smoke billowing from the building. They went in wearing breathing apparatus and tackled the fire, which was spreading from the utility room into the kitchen. The fire was quickly brought under control and then officers searched for four cats that had gone missing.

Paramedics also treated two people for smoke inhalation. Fortunately the cats were later found safe and well.
