Five teen suspects released in murder investigation

Tuesday 07 July 2015

All five teenagers arrested on suspicion of the murder of 16-year-old Morgan Huelin have been released on police bail.

Police have announced that the five were released between 5 pm and 6.30 pm last night, but will have to report back to police on 10 August.

Officers say that the investigation into Morgan’s death is continuing.

Earlier yesterday, the detectives investigating the death were given more time to question the teens.

The arrests were made on Sunday – meaning that the 24 hours that police typically get to interview a suspect had elapsed, but that time limit can be extended by the Chief Inspector in serious cases.

The Post Mortem examination by an expert from the UK is expected to take place later today, as the investigation into Morgan’s death continues. There have been around 24 officers working full-time on the case, which has been codenamed “Operation Emerald”.

Police have re-emphasised that any member of the public with any information, however minor or irrelevant it may seem, should get in touch with them.

At a press conference on Sunday, Detective Superintendent Stewart Gull said that they had received a strong response from the public in the early hours of the investigation, with several unsolicited phone calls about the case.

“Anyone who has any information, however insignificant it might seem, we would ask them to get in touch,” he said.
