Police have confirmed that the man killed in town on Saturday night was 46-year-old Colin Chevalier.
In a short statement last night, police confirmed the identity of the victim in the murder inquiry and extended their sympathies to his family. This morning the investigation is continuing into the attack which took place in Mr Chevalier's Duhamel Place flat in town - his body was found by police at 10.20 pm on Saturday night with what officers will only describe as "extensive injuries".
Three people remain in custody having been arrested on suspicion of murder. Police say that a 31-year-old woman was arrested shortly after 3 am on Sunday morning, and a 35-year-old man was arrested at 5.50 am - both were in St Helier. Just before 9 am, a third man was arrested by armed officers swooped in St Clement and he is currently under guard at the hospital.
A Home Office Pathologist has arrived in the Island to carry out a post mortem exam later today, after the body was removed from the flat last night.
Police say that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the crime, but have urged anyone who might know anything about it to come forward. They say that they are particularly keen to trace the whereabouts of a dark coloured VW Polo, registration number J93137, which was parked facing the wrong way down Duhamel Place on Saturday. Anyone who has seen the car has been asked to call the police.
They also want anyone who was around Duhamel Place on Saturday between 2 pm and 10 pm to get in touch with them.
In a statement released last night, the States of Jersey Police said that the investigation was continuing, with forensic and evidential searches going on, as well as house-to-house inquiries and witness interviews - including interviews with the three suspects.
They said: “The States of Jersey Police are now able to confirm the identity of the deceased male in the current murder investigation as 46-year-old Colin Chevalier (26 Aug 1967).
“We would like to extend our sincere condolences to Colin's family, who are currently being supported by specially trained Family Liaison Officers.
“Three people remain in police custody on suspicion of murder and investigations continue."
Colin’s family have released the photo of him through the States of Jersey Police.
