The Interim Headteacher of Victoria College secondary school will be taking on the leading role permanently, it has been confirmed.
The Government announced this afternoon that Dr Gareth Hughes, who has led the College since Alun Watkins’ retirement in September 2021, had beaten off competition from “an international field of candidates.”
The recruitment process was overseen by the Jersey Appointments Commission, with a panel of senior Education civil servants, Victoria College’s governors, and an independent educational expert. Students also had the opportunity to ask candidates questions.
Dr Hughes will now be involved in recruiting a new Deputy Head, alongside the Children, Young People, Education and Skills Department.

“It is an exciting time for the school and its strategic development, and I am so pleased to be given the opportunity to help our young people to be the very best they can be.”
