If you’ve ever had a burning desire to see how Jersey’s firefighting heroes tackle the island’s biggest blazes, then it’s your lucky day.
Today, the Fire and Rescue Service will open its doors to islanders for the hottest event in town: an open day showcasing everything from how they get to grips with intense infernos to danger demonstrations.
Activities will include learning about breathing apparatus, drones, on-call firefighters, the British Red Cross and the Inshore Rescue Boats.
One competition-winning member of the public will also enjoy a ride on the service’s Aerial Ladder Platform. At a towering 32 metres above the ground, it will offer a unique bird's eye view of St Helier.

The flame-tastic event will take place at the Rouge Bouillon Headquarters from 10:30 until 16:30.
It comes little over a week after the team completed their final live training course of the year at Gatwick Airport.
13 firefighters worked in temperatures of over 650 degrees Celsius to repress a blaze without steaming themselves.

So high were the temperatures that some crews had to leave the room on fire after feeling the heat – even with their protective clothing.
“This is good practice, showing the firefighters have recognised their limits,” a post on social media read.
