Corbière lighthouse, one of the Island’s most iconic landmarks, is due for some TLC over the next few months as the Ports of Jersey try to ensure it is “preserved for future generations."
A 12-week project is due to start tomorrow to repaint the lighthouse.
The work, which can only be undertaken during the drier months of the year with better light conditions, will involve stripping off the existing paint from the walls before any new coats can be added. Scafollding will be used to give workers access to the landmark which stands 135 feet above sea level.

Whilst the Lighthouse is managed by Ports of Jersey, the work will be carried out by an experienced maintenance team from the Department of Infrastructure.
On behalf of Ports of Jersey, Marine Operations Manager, Captain Peter Lawrence, said: “Not only is Corbière Lighthouse an extremely recognisable part of Jersey’s landscape but importantly it remains an essential navigational aid for mariners. Therefore, it is essential that the building is kept in good repair and maintained to ensure it remains highly visible at all times and the structure is preserved for future generations”.
The last time the building was painted was in 2012.
