Budding masterchefs invited for heated cook-off

If you think you could outcook even the most masterful of chefs, there's a sizzling BBQ challenge for you to get stuck into.

Andrew Soddy, Head Chef at the L'Horizon Beach Hotel, is on the hunt for teams of four or five to cook off against each other this summer.

After getting the BBQ fired up on the Hotel’s lower terrace and demonstrating how to perfect some classic grilled dishes, the teams will have a five minute Q&A with Mr Soddy to digest as much information as possible. They will then have to race off Masterchef-style to a specially created ‘larder’ to collect all the ingredients they need to make their dish.

They will have to delegate jobs and transform their ingredients into plates of top-notch quality. Each team’s efforts will be judged not only on presentation, but also on flavour.

Once the cooking and judging is done, all teams will get together to tuck into the fruits of their labour.

Commenting on the masterclasses, which cost £40 per person, Mr Soddy said: “They are great for interactive and friendly competition and perfect for team building. Hopefully each team will pick up some new skills along the way and try using ingredients they might not have cooked with before and of course there will be a prize for the winner.”

The Head Chef also teaches two other quirky classes: one specialised in introducing chefs to Jersey Bean Crock, and an invitation to 'catch a lobster' before making a dish with the coveted crustacean.
