Showing distance is no factor when it comes to Christmas, local band Midriff have come together online to record a special cover of a Stevie Wonder classic.

Over the Christmas period, Express is bringing you a series of Bailiwick Christmas Covers from across the island's diverse music scene, from instrumentals to pop classics.

Midriff is a Jersey band including Jess Donoghue (vocalist), Mel Donoghue (backing vocalist/guitarist/pianist), Julia Callander (backing vocalist/bassist), and Tommy Bisson (drummer).

Discussing how they have evolved through the years, the band said: "We started at 15 with help from Youth Arts Jersey and have since released two EPs with the second, called Signal, being self-produced. We’ve been lucky enough to play at Jersey Live, Legend in the Park and the Sunset concert."

"We are now all studying music at university and still enjoy getting together during the holidays."

Talking about their song choice, they said: "We picked 'What Christmas Means to Me' by Stevie Wonder because we wanted a less traditional Christmas song that was upbeat and would help cheer people up in light of the limited festivities this year."
