Kensington Place is closed after a burst water main sent a 20ft jet of water shooting into the air this morning.
Repair crews are working to fix the issue, which may also cause low water pressure in surrounding properties.
Police said the road remained accessible from the Esplanade but was closed between the Kensington Street and Cheapside junctions.
In a statement posted to social media, Jersey Water advised islanders to avoid the area.
The statement said: “20ft fountain display in Kensington Place this morning.
"The team is working hard to fix the burst main.
“People at properties in the area may experience low water pressure while we tackle this one.
“We’ll keep you updated as the team progresses with the repairs.”
