Water play area closure aims to resolve problems once and for all

The new water play zone at Coronation Park will be shut tomorrow in the hope of finally resolving the issue that has caused several closures of the £750,000 park since it opened.

A Government spokesperson said: "While every effort has been made to ensure as much of the work as possible take place outside of regular opening hours, the team will need to close the facility for the day on Tuesday.

"It is hoped this work will resolve the issue that has caused several closures in the past.

"The team at Infrastructure would like to stress that it is normal procedure for any construction project to make alterations during the “snagging” period, particularly while warranties are in place with the suppliers.

"We apologise for any inconvenience."

Officials previously said the closures were linked to a "technical issue with the water cleaning system", and that they needed to close the facility as a result for children's health and safety.

The water play area only opened in June, replacing the 84-year-old Coronation Park paddling pool.

Its was funded by the Fiscal Stimulus Fund, which aimed to get money pumping back through the island's pandemic-hit economy.
