How should health and care services be regulated?

Friday 19 April 2024

Islanders are being invited to give feedback on how Jersey’s health and care services are regulated.

The Jersey Care Commission’s remit is due to expand in 2025 to cover the hospital, ambulance, and Government-provided mental health services, as set out in Jersey’s Regulation of Care Law 2014.

In a statement, the commission said that it had developed a new core set of standards which will apply to all providers impacted by the change, which Express reported on last year.

These outline what people should expect from the care they receive, set out what providers of care services must do to meet the expectations of people who use care services and requirements under the Law, and provide a structure that can be used to inspect the care provided.

New providers impacted by the change, existing providers and members of the public are invited to respond and share their feedback, which will be reviewed and incorporated as necessary. A public consultation on the proposed single assessment framework will remain open until 31 May.

For services that will be part of the new inspection process, the single assessment framework will be published beginning of 2025.

The draft standards and feedback can be shared via the survey on the Commission's website, carecommission.je.

The Commission will also host several information events on the new standards, taking place:

  • Jersey Library: 8 May between 11:00 and 12:30.

  • St Helier Parish Hall: 23 May between 17:30 and 19:30.
