Who's been stealing from children?

Heartless thieves have stolen floor tiles from a children's charity after organisers spent a year raising funds to improve their playground.

More than a dozen green floor tiles were taken from Centrepoint Trust Nursery at La Pouquelaye sometime between 6 pm on Friday 17 October and 8 am on Monday 20 October - and the head of the charity says that the children are upset about the theft.

The tiles costing about £20 each were part of a total redevelopment of the outside play area that the children who are cared for by the Trust before and after school and during the holidays have helped design.

Centrepoint’s Chief Executive Officer Jane Moy said: “It’s a really low blow, the children are really upset about it. It has taken us over a year to raise the money."

Romerils who are due to start installing the playground next week are now trying to find replacements for the missing tiles before they set to work creating a mini Millennium Park on one side of the site and a five aside football pitch on the other.

Mrs Moy believes the heavy dark green tiles that are about 50 cm x 50 cm in size have been taken for private use.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Headquarters on 612612.

Centrepoint Trust has been providing affordable child care for working parents in Jersey for nearly 30 years and operates from three facilities: the day nursery at Rope Walk and a sessional morning nursery and school age care group, both at La Pouquelaye.

The charity now needs another £15,000 for flooring for the playground's new football pitch.
