Honeybees, soil status, food waste, microplastics, and protecting Jersey's coastline will all be on the agenda this weekend at a conference organised by local WI members.
The island’s branches of Women’s Institutes will be gathering at St. Lawrence Church for a full day of speakers, workshops and Q&A sessions, all focused on environmental matters.
The event, however, is open to all.
Speakers will include Environment Minister Nigel Jones from Jersey in Transition and Jane Burns, who is the Government’s Sustainability and Climate Change Engagement Manager.
There will also be climate change-related stands hosted by the Jersey Met Office, Journey to Zero Waste, EcoActive Jersey and Fairtrade, as well as honey-tasting and WI tea and cake.
This year, the WI Jersey Federation has launched its ‘Knit your own Climate Change Scarf’ with the pattern devised by member Angela Lister and is based on a pictural representation of rising temperatures.
The Climate Change Forum will be held between 09:30 and 15:30.
Contact wijersey.community@yahoo.com for more information but there is no need to register beforehand. Entry is £10.
