Highlands College lecturer Mary Ayling-Phillip is in the running for Deputy in St Helier No. 3.
Mary has spent 38 years living in the district, by People’s Park, and says she is passionate about campaigning to improve the quality of life for all residents in the area.
The Sociology lecturer who went to Jersey College for Girls spent 10 years in north London as a youth and community worker where she says she learnt the importance of grass roots campaigns to involve all sections of the community.
She has promoted equal opportunities throughout her career at Highlands and says she’ll work towards creating a fairer society, supporting the new Anti-Discrimination law, more Family friendly policies, less inappropriate use of zero hours contracts and a more open transparent government.
Mary is a working mum who says she understands the need to do more for the growing elderly population, having been a Carer for her own mother.
The sitting deputies are Richard Rondel who has confirmed he will be standing for re-election, Jackie Hilton and Mike Higgins who are both expected to stand again and Deputy Andrew Green who is going for “promotion” to the Senatorial benches.
The district covers Rouge Bouillon and First Tower, and is the biggest Deputy district in the Island, with four seats.
