Will support grow for allotment enthusiast?

Saturday 13 September 2014

Allotment campaigner Jeff Hathaway is hoping for grassroots support after he announced he’s standing for Deputy for St Brelade No 2.

Jeff who is also Managing Director of a local web-development company, director of two other local business and a member of Digital Jersey, has lived in the parish for over 33 years where he is currently Centenier.

Jeff said: “Having spent 20 years in Honorary service and with an in-depth experience of Parish affairs and therefore the importance of the Constable as a political representative, I shall be supporting the Yes campaign to keep the Constables in the States.

“If elected I will be seeking a role in Scrutiny, EDD or Education & Home Affairs where I can use my personal skills and the knowledge gained of working with the States departments, the Justice System and the Parishes to good effect - and to the benefit of the people of Jersey.

“With two teenage children of my own I am concerned that the island needs fresh direction if we are to fulfil our children’s aspirations.”

Jeff served on the States Les Creux Millennium Park Working Party and was Chairman of the Economic Development (EDD) Working Party on Allotments. He is now Trustee and Chairman of the Jersey Allotment & Leisure Gardening Association and also the Channel Islands Representative of the Allotment & Gardens Council (UK).

He’s been instrumental in helping to set up allotments in both his parish, St Helier and St John.

His “green fingers” have also helped St Brelade reach the finals of the Parish in Bloom competition for the last three years running.

He has recently represented the parish in a series of Environment department workshops to set up Coastal National Park to protect the Island’s coastline and coastal areas. He is also a Member of National Trust for Jersey.

Jeff is the Founder and the Editor of the parish newsletter “La Baguette” which is now in its 7th year – and which he says is still going strong!
