Islanders are being warned about a 'street drug' with a similar name to the prescription drug Xanax, which is believed to have led to a young person becoming seriously ill.
A Government spokesperson said: “We are aware that a ‘street drug’, with a similar name to the prescription drug Xanax, has been linked to the hospitalisation of a young person. To protect the privacy of the individual, we will not be sharing any further details about them.
“Staff at the affected school have spoken with students, and updated parents on the situation and schools have been informed. We continue to work with colleagues in the States of Jersey Police to keep our community safe."
Other secondary school heads are now sending out warnings to parents and guardians.
Express understands the drug can come in the form of a tablet or capsule, and that its name may sound like 'Xanna' or similar.
The Government added: “Any young people who are affected can access support, either through trusted members of staff within their school, from the Youth Enquiry Service, or through Talk To Frank.”
