Young footballers help make stables pitch perfect for disabled Islanders

Thursday 11 June 2015

There was no time to horse around when a team of young footballers got to work at Le Claire Riding Stables.

The U14's who play for JTC Wanderers, together with their parents and coaches kicked off their weekend helping a local charity who organise riding lessons for disabled Islanders at the stables in St John.

The youngsters did a spot of weeding and helped level off the sand school making it easier and safer for the ponies, riders and the Jersey Riding for the Disabled volunteers.

Bob Lawrence from JTC Wanderers said: “As an FA Charter Standard Community Club, our ethos extends beyond just focusing on football. We also feel it is important to give back to our community through meaningful and helpful projects. This work the boys and their parents have done for Jersey Riding for the Disabled is a great example of where the team work developed in playing football can be channelled to help others outside of the game."

Jersey Riding for the Disabled’s Cathy Fricker said: “Riding for the Disabled helpers and riders are extremely grateful to the JTC Jersey Wanderers for giving up their time to do so much work at the sand school. RDA Jersey are totally dependent on volunteers to enable our children and adults to ride in a safe and enjoyable environment. The boys and their parents did a fantastic job and we are very grateful to them for giving up their spare time to help us.”
