How I unwind: Amy Moore, singer

Friday 01 September 2023

Ahead of a performance at the Weekender tomorrow, a local singer-songwriter has shared how she'll be winding down once the show's over...

Multi-instrumentalist Amy Moore will be performing Saturday 2 September on the Mailmate stage.

Passionate about music since the age of 11, when she started taking on the role of drummer-chick, Amy released her debut EP 'Free Spirit' this summer. It followed a string of single releases, which garnered the attention of CountryLine Radio, BBC Introducing, BBC Bristol, Bath Sound Radio and others.

When she's not writing songs, here's what she does to relax...

I eat...

victoria sponge cake

I'll be the first to admit I've a sweet tooth! I have to say homemade cakes will always come out tops too.

I've a few special closely guarded family recipes which, when I've got time, I love to bake. My mum's Victoria Sponge is always the best!

I drink...

coffee

I'm a creature of habit and my morning coffee ritual really 'grounds' me for the day.

I try not to have too many, so my special roast oat milk morning coffee (or two) truly brings me joy!

I listen to...

music listen headphones

My life always has a soundtrack... My playlist tends to really reflect my mood.

I couldn't ever put myself in any one category genre but, anything with a driving guitar or an emotive bass line will get my ears. I always love to listen to things with a musical ear and try to appreciate all the elements of the record.

For that reason, I particularly love to listen to anything created in the '70s – that era for songwriting and production is so monumental in the progression of modern music and I can't help but get lost in it.

I read...

It's a guilty pleasure, but I still love to buy magazines! I'm not sure whether it's millenial nostalgia that drives it, but I have a monthly subscription to Cyclist magazine and always buy a new mag of some sort when I'm travelling!

I do...

Amy Moore

My ultimate way to wind down has to be playing and writing music... I can lose hours of time in just playing and singing away. I think when you find a hobby that transports you through time like that, you have to embrace it!

I have to be in the right frame of mind for writing, but I can sit and just sing my way though covers that I love all day long!
