Cheese, peppermint tea, a good book... this is not a shopping list but the recipe for an ideal relaxing evening according to the owner of a "thoughtful giving" shop.
Harriet Rouse opened Harriet & Rose at 71 King Street in August 2021.
When she is not helping islanders find the most thoughtful gift, she likes to sit back and relax, either with family and friends or with a good book in hand, as she shared with Express...
...hang out with my family and friends.
Sometimes we walk the dog too, or get in the water (or on the water). I'm training for a half-marathon, so running is beginning to feel like a way to unwind - though it doesn't always feel easy!
Outside is the key though, and with so many amazing places to walk and beaches to enjoy I actually don't even mind what the weather is doing (though sunshine is nice).
I am also quite a creative person and enjoy pottery and ceramics when time allows.
...cheese, which will always be my favourite! I just wish it was better for me.
We're so lucky in Jersey to have amazing local produce and fish, and where possible, we pick up veg at the stall at the bottom of our road.
With two teens in the house who love to cook, I'm quite often just in charge of cleaning up afterwards!
...actually, I don't right now.
I'm currently in the midst of dry January which I do every year, but do really enjoy a glass of wine (or two) at the weekend.
I couldn't do without my morning coffee with beans from Locke's, and I'll always have an oat milk flat white if you're offering! Peppermint tea is my go-to evening drink.
...indie and folk music.
First Aid Kit, the Oh Hellos, Johnny Flynn... Basically, what I have playing in the shop is what I listen to at home!

...a lot! Reading is the one real way I relax.
On holiday particularly, I always have my nose in a book!
I recently finished 'Three Women' by Lisa Taddeo which wasn't always easy, but an amazing read. I always have a reading pile too high, and add to it often!
One of the favourite books that I read in the last year was 'Hare House' by Sally Hinchcliffe or 'The House of Fortune' by Jessie Burton.
