NEWS EYE: A fairytale from the south

Friday 25 September 2020

Today, we share an ancient fable of the danger of listening to too many people when a firm decision is needed. And it’s Chicken Licken-good!

Once upon a time...

As Jondry Fondry was walking into a wood he bumped into his friend Susie Pusie. “Where are you going?” asked Susie Pusie.

“I’m off Over Dale and Yonder to build a Hospital,” said Jondry Fondry. “If I don’t build one, the sky’s going to fall on my head. Would you like to come?”

“Yes please,” said Susie Pusie, and off they went. Soon they met Gorsty Worsty, who was standing at a Brook By the Mill. “We can build the Hospital here!” said Susie Pusie.

“I'm afraid not,” said Gorsty Worsty. “Auntie Deidre has said ‘not on your nelly’ so we have to go elsewhere.”

So Jondry Fondry, Susie Pusie and Gorsty Worsty carried on. Soon they met Larndy Farndy, who was standing by five big oaks. “We can build the Hospital here!” said Gorsty Worsty.

“I'm afraid not,” said Larndy Farndy. “The boss of the village, Voxy Foxy, has said she won’t let that happen, no word of a lie.”

So Jondry Fondry, Susie Pusie, Gorsty Worsty and Larndy Farndy carried on. Soon they met Lorny Normy, who was standing by Mr Warwick’s farm. “We can build the Hospital here!” said Larndy Farndy.

“I’m afraid not,” said Lorny Normy. “The Smokey Folky who live here say the grass is contaminated with weed so we can’t stay here.”

So Jondry Fondry, Susie Pusie, Gorsty Worsty, Larndy Farndy and Lorny Normy carried on. Soon they met Richie Renny, who was standing by the park belonging to Mr Andrews. “We can build the Hospital here!” said Lormy Normy.

“I’m afraid not,” said Richie Renny. “I’ve just met Trointy Pointy, a village elder from the north, who told me that the Hospital needs to be built back at Mr Warwick’s farm. Or by the Queen’s reservoir. But not here.”

So Jondry Fondry, Susie Pusie, Gorsty Worsty, Larndy Farndy, Lorny Normy and Richie Renny carried on. Soon they Huey Ruey, who was standing by the park that belonged to the people. “We can definitely build the Hospital here!" exclaimed Richie Renny.

“I’m afraid not”, said Huey Ruey. “I’m just met a Crow by a Croft who told me that the village council had already decided that a Hospital can never be built here. Sorry chaps.”

So Jondry Fondry, Susie Pusie, Gorsty Worsty, Larndy Farndy, Lorny Normy, Richie Renny and Huey Ruey continued to walk Over Dale and Yonder.

“Hang on a second!” said Jondry Fondry, looking around him. “This place is familiar.” Suddenly it dawned on him that his journey had brought him back to the very same place where it had started. He’d actually walked in a big circle!

“Oh dear,” he said. “I might have started off sounding Cocky-Locky but now I look like a right Turkey-Lurkey.”

And all the others cried tears of laughter, or possibly pain.

The End.
