Jersey proved too strong for the home side this weekend as they retained the tennis Inter-Insular trophy at Longcamps by 8 matches to 4.
The tie commenced with the Ladies singles matches, with Guernsey’s Lauren Barker and Lauren Watson-Steele both picking up points and leaving the tie evenly poised at 2-2.
The Men’s Singles event followed where Jersey took a strong lead winning all four points despite valiant efforts from Guernsey who lost two matches in Championship Tie-Breaks.
After lunch with Jersey leading 6-2 it was time for the doubles matches. For a short while it looked as if Guernsey might be able to force a draw as they led in all four matches.
The Sarnian Ladies’ pairings both held on to their leads to win their matches meaning the Ladies’ team won their section 4-2. However in the end the Jersey men proved too strong, pulling back to win both their doubles matches for a clean sweep 6-0.
With thanks to Guernsey Tennis for this match report.
