Guernsey twin padel tennis stars secure sponsorship

Friday 22 March 2024

Teen twins from Guernsey are making waves in the world of padel tennis after recently signing a management contract and securing sponsorship.

Aged just 16, Luke and Cameron Gomes – the “padel twinz” from Guernsey – have signed a management contract with R3 Sport.

The sports and entertainment company has already secured them sponsorship from BullPadel UK.

The twins were both diagnosed some years back with juvenile epilepsy.

They have been discharged of this condition and are pursuing their dreams as padel tennis professionals.

"Luke and Cam are more than just talented athletes; they are an inspiration to all of us," said Jonathan Rowland, Chairman of R3 Sport.

"Their dedication, teamwork, and unwavering spirit embody the values we stand for at R3 Sport. We are honoured to have them as part of our family."

Luke  said: “We started playing padel tennis aged 14 and fell in love with the sport. Cameron and I are working hard on our game to try and become the best we can.”

Cameron said: “We are really grateful for the support from R3 Sport and BullPadel UK, R3 Sport is helping Luke and I maximise our potential as padel tennis players in terms of our training, equipment and the tournaments we can take part in.”

Launched earlier this year, R3 Sport invests in the sports and entertainment sectors, with a particular focus on the fast growing sport of padel.

BullPadel is a global padel tennis brand and sponsors some of the sport’s biggest stars and events.

There are currently over 90,000 people in the UK who play padel, and R3 Sport says this number has increased by around 1,380% since 2020.

The number of players in the country is predicted to reach 600,000 by the end of 2026.

There are around 350 padel courts in the UK. This is expected to grow to 1,000 within the next two years.
