After recently being temporarily downgraded, Country Butchers has secured a 5-star food hygiene rating – the highest grade it can achieve.

The business at Camp du Roi had been given one-star when it was inspected earlier this year, which it blamed on staff shortages at the time. A spokesperson told Express that they hoped the business premises would be reassessed as soon as possible, and that has now happened.

The reassessment took place on 29 May, when representatives from the Office for Environment Health and Pollution Regulation rated it as ‘good’ across all three categories measured.


A spokesman for Country Butchers said they are pleased their 5-star rating has been re-instated.

“We had always been very proud to have had 5-stars, and we do not want to make any excuses about our recent short lived down rating, but we would like to take this opportunity to just say that due to a large increase in trade combined with staff shortages, (as we had been 50% down on staff levels and the staff we had were working everyday and over 70 hours a week to keep things going) we got behind for a very short while. This is not an excuse, it is just the plain truth as to how it had been, and we are lucky enough to now have two new staff members and everything now is even better than it ever was.”

Food hygiene ratings must be displayed publicly by any businesses that is assessed by the Office for Environment Health and Pollution Regulation.

The Country Butchers spokesperson said their customers had been very supportive during the recent temporary downgrading of their hygiene rating, and he hoped to see them back again soon.
