Graham McKinley was previously praised for his lifetime of service to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II – with stories of his military action and his political work in Alderney remembered again, after his death.
Mr McKinley died in the early hours of yesterday morning.
States of Alderney Member Alex Snowdon was among those paying tribute to him yesterday, saying it was “very sad news”.
He also described him as a “true gentleman and a lovely man”.
Such sad news to hear Graham McKinley OBE has passed away.

He was a true gentleman and lovely man. I really enjoyed working with Graham on the States of Alderney.
My deepest condolences to his family. https://t.co/L1jVnn5KBE pic.twitter.com/RN13WWvQ9h
Mr McKinley had served in the States of Alderney between 2014 and 2022, and was the island’s representative in the States of Guernsey between 2014 and 2018.
His background, including his military family ties and his own active service, were reported by the Alderney Press in 2021 (above).
His heroic actions during a 30 year military career led to him being honoured by the late Queen, with his son Tom later also being honoured by Her Majesty.
Mr McKinley retired to Alderney but kept very busy with his political work in the island.
