More than 20,000 people travelled to and from Guernsey over the bank holiday weekend, as the island basked in sunshine.

Guernsey Ports reported a major upsurge in ferry passengers over the past few days compared to last year, following the introduction of the inter island foot passenger service provided by Islands Unlimited alongside the Brittany Ferries services.

Around 10,600 people travelled to and from Guernsey by sea between Friday and Monday, with the majority using Brittany Ferries, but around 3,000 travelling as foot passengers on the San Pawl.

This represents a 62% on visitors arriving and leaving by sea compared to last year, said Guernsey Ports.

“We’re delighted to see such a significant increase in ferry passengers over the August bank holiday, with numbers rising by around 60% compared to last year,” said Assistant Harbour Master Kieran Higgs.

“The timetable operated by Brittany Ferries and the introduction of Islands Unlimited’s regular inter-island sailings have strengthened connectivity, making sea travel easier and more appealing. The latest figures indicate increased confidence in ferry travel to and from Guernsey.”

Guernsey Marinas also welcomed two visiting regattas over the weekend adding to the busy atmosphere at the harbour and in town.

A further 11,000 people travelled to and from the island via Guernsey Airport.

The air travel figures are consistent with 2024, said Guernsey Ports.
