Organisers have said it’s going to be a “great year” for this year’s South Show, and spoke of hopes for a “bumper crop”.

It’s taking place next Friday, (8 August) from 13:00 to 19:00 and on Saturday, (9 August) from 11:00 to 17:00, at St Martin’s Community Centre.

Residents of St Martins, Forest, St Andrews, and St Peter Port have been invited to enter exhibits and showcase their talents in five separate categories; horticulture, floral art, culinary delights, children’s corner, and adult arts & crafts.

Floral art sees everything from buttonholes to banquet-worthy arrangements, whilst culinary delights features baking, preserves, and homebrewing, with organisers encouraging audiences for the “legendary Men Only cookery class” or the “ever-popular Sloe Gin showdown”.

In Children’s Corner, there’ll be “Gardens on a plate”, and plenty of arts, crafts, whilst the adult arts & crafts sections show off the South’s knitting, crochet, painting, sewing, mixed media, LEGO, amongst other mediums.

Entry day for submissions is tomorrow, (Saturday 2 August). You shouldn’t bring your exhibits, but you will need to pay 50p per entry for adults, or 20p per entry for 15s and under.

There’s a maximum of two entries per class, per person, be aware that if you write your address on the exhibit cards, it will be visible to the public.

There’ll also be a tearoom serving up homemade cakes and bacon rolls, with bottle and book stalls, fresh produce, and a raffle.

John Ogier, President of the South Show, says he’s looking forward to seeing what’s been grown and made in the southern parishes: “It’s going to be a great Show this year. We’re all very much excited to see what the residents of the southern parishes have to exhibit.”

Mr Ogier continued: “We’re hoping for a bumper crop! This will include great displays of flowers, fruit and vegetables, delicious cakes, jams, special children’s classes and some art and craft demonstrating both care in its creation and artistic flare.”

On the Saturday festivities move to the “Show field” for craft stalls & children’s games with the “Fun Dog Show” at 14.00, hosted by the GSPCA.

It’s open to all dogs, regardless of what parish they live in so you’re invited to bring along your furry friends and get a chance to win the ‘Forest Stores Trophy’. There are 10 classes plus a Best in Show and all proceeds go straight to the charity.

There’ll also be a live performance by the Guernsey Jazz Orchestra, (GJO), from 12.30 until 13:30 playing everything from post-war classics to modern day earworms.
