Easy-read letters have been sent to adults with a learning disability, inviting them for their Covid-19 vaccination. The main carer for each adult has also been offered a jab at the same time.
The special clinic will take place on Monday 8 March. The clinic will be quieter and chairs will be arranged in pairs so those who attend can sit together. If all those invited take up the offer, around 460 people will be attending.
There will be space set aside for patients who need to wait 15 minutes after their jab, but who may be unable to sit easily for that long. Adult Learning Disability Team staff will be on hand to help if needed, and to be a recognisable face for the adults attending. All vaccine staff will also wear a photograph of their face attached to their uniform, to lessen the sight of full PPE-wear.
Letters are also being sent to people identified as moderate to high risk and aged 18 to 65 – priority group 6. There are around 6,600 people in this group, and letters will be sent in batches of 500, starting with the oldest first.
More than 22,000 doses of vaccine have been given via the CVC, community nursing teams, or staff in primary care.
