Alderney breakwater November 2019
In these pictures taken by Alderney based reporter Emma Pinch, it’s clear to see how much the breakwater has protected Braye Harbour from the brunt of the stormy weather today, which has seen flights and ferries cancelled across the Channel Islands.

Some boats were damaged by the weather at Braye Harbour though, and elsewhere in Alderney there has been damage caused by the weather including at the Tennis Centre.

In what could have been a much more serious incident, electrical cables were downed by the wind near Le Fret Farm. Luckily no one was hurt and the area was quicky made safe by the voluntary fire brigade and Alderney Electricity engineers.

The stormy weather hasn’t missed the other islands, with a number of sport events cancelled in Guernsey today including the Guernsey FC match as their opponents saw their flights delayed due to the winds.

The weekly Parkrun at L’ancresse common was also cancelled, with the My Guernsey Facebook page sharing a number of videos, including this one demonstrating the force of the winds and waves at L’ancresse earlier.
