With confirmation of ferry sailings to Guernsey and France, and cruise liner visits this summer, Alderney could also see regular sailings to and from Jersey.
The States of Alderney has intimated it may even be able to offer financial support to bring about a new inter-island service.
It is inviting ‘Expressions of Interest’ for a seasonal service from ferry operators that can carry up to 12-passengers.
Alderney wants the service to sail at least four times a week between the end of May and the end of September, and it’s already been suggested that any contract could be extended to next summer too if it goes well this year.
At this stage, the States of Alderney’s Economic Development Committee wants to receive some basic details from any potential applicants including what vessel they would use, a proposed timetable and fares, and what support the service may require.
In the past, the SoA has given financial support to ferry services between the island and Guernsey. Chair of Alderney’s Economic Development Committee, Stuart Clark said those services have proven vital to the island.
“The seasonal ferry services to Guernsey for visitors and residents alike have been an important factor in Alderney’s transport offering. The limited travel links to Jersey have also been well noted and the Committee feels that direct links to Jersey is a market that should be tested and exploited.”
Any Expressions of Interest must be submitted by Friday.
Once initial submissions have been received, a more detailed process will be carried out to select the provider in time to commence the service in May.

Alderney Ferry Services Ltd run daily trips between the island and Guernsey and offers twice-weekly sailings to and from Cherbourg.
Manches Iles has confirmed it will be sailing between Alderney and Dielette on selected dates this year too with trips in May, June, July, August, and September.
There will also be nine cruise liners sailing in to Alderney’s waters this year.
“This is a great opportunity to showcase Alderney’s famous warm welcome,” said Visit Alderney’s Caroline Gauvain.
“Although the cruise ship guests are here for only a short time, we are confident they’ll enjoy our hospitality and our unique island and want to come back for a longer stay next time.”
