Alderney Ferry Services has decided not to operate between Alderney and Guernsey this winter due to the weather.

Its 2025 services were pulled early because of poor conditions and a slow down in bookings, and the decision has been made to call time on the daily sailings for this year.

Charlie Smith, co-Director, said “continued bad weather” and the end of a subsidy from the States of Alderney led to the operator stopping the daily services slightly earlier than scheduled.

“The weather since mid August has been so terrible which resulted in 22 weather days alone in September. We dread to imagine the weather coming this winter.”

She added that AFS doesn’t intend to operate this winter, and said its schedule for 2026 should be released “very soon”.

The States of Alderney agreed to subsidise the firm over the summer season from 26 May, but this came to an end on 26 September.
