The tap was installed in June 2021, becoming the first public refill station.

The original planning approval was only temporary and outlined that the tap should be removed after two years.

But with the deadline approaching, Guernsey Water have submitted a fresh application seeking to ensure free water continues to be available from the iconic location.

The utility says that 6,818 liters had been taken from the tap when measured last November – equivalent to 13,636 small bottles of water – making it the most popular station in the island.

It also says that there have been no complaints relating to location or impact on pedestrians.

Guernsey Water also operates free refill stations at the KGV, reservoir and Cobo Bay.
