Mr Le Poullain will be hoping for success as he takes to the ring alongside fellow Bailiwick boxers; Casey De La Mare, Niall Adams, Charlie Watson, Luke Robert, Dan Meree, Tomasz Kot, Gaz Papworth, Mason Smale, Michael Crowley and Jimmy Lesbirel. Monika Duda will be facing an opponent in the evening’s only female bout too.
Mr Le Poullain is using his fight as part of his training for his trip to Australia’s Goldcoast for the Commonwealth Games. He is the first boxer from the Bailiwick to reach the qualifying standard and will be representing his home island, Alderney, as well as Guernsey, when he boxes in the Sarnian colours.
Mr Le Poullain told Express: “As far as I’m aware, I have an opponent from West Ham in London. It’s quite a prestigious gym to box for, so my opponent will be tough!
“I always have confidence and belief in my ability, as I train hard and do as my coaches, Ben and Tom Duff, instruct me, so I am ready for this!”
Whatever happens in the ring tonight, there’ll be no rest for Mr Le Poullain as his training will continue: “This is the last fight before the Commonwealth Games, so I’ll be straight back into training on Monday.
“I’m away next week back training with the GB squad in a multi nations camp with Germany and Spain and then the team and myself are heading to Australia on 23 March.”
Having already had a successful start to 2018, having won the Sports Personality of the Year award as voted for by the public across the Channel Islands, Mr Le Poullain said he is very excited for what may come next: “I can’t wait for the Commonwealth Games, I’m so excited to compete on such a big stage!”
