The pup – who was named Blaze – was found washed up at the Vale bay and rushed to the GSPCA’s dedicated seal facility, where she received emergency care.

Sadly, it was not enough to save the young pup, who was found malnourished, at only 20kg, with a number of ailments and injuries. Despite making it through the first few nights, Blaze passed away early this morning.

We are extremely saddened,” said GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne. “Being found so thin and unwell on Sunday the team and especially Head Of Marine Mammals Geoff George had been working around the clock to care for Blaze, but was extremely poorly and passed away in the early hours.”

“It is devastating when an animal passes away as we all care so much for each of the animals in our care.”

The GSPCA has three other seal pups in its care – Joey, Ellie and Titan – who are all reportedly “doing well”.
