People in Guernsey have grown used to being disappointed after a plane goes ‘tech’.

But normally, it’s a yellow and white ATR on the way to Southampton or Gatwick – not a crimson red fighter jet.

The Red Arrows will not be at tonight’s Guernsey Air Display, because of technical issues and a shortage of engineering staff.

A spokesperson from the RAF Events Team said: “[We] know this will be a great disappointment to… the people of Guernsey, especially at late notice.”

Air enthusiasts hoping to catch a glimpse of the famous RAF display team will no doubt be disappointed.

However, there are plenty of other amazing aircraft on offer, including a World War Two Hawker Hurricane, a Fairey Swordfish biplane, and a display from the world’s largest civilian aerobatic display team, Team RaVen.

The running order for tonight’s Guernsey Air Display is:

18.30    Team RaVen
18.50    Navy Wings Swordfish
19.05    Hurricane
19.15    Navy Wings Seafire
19.30    Jet Provost
19.45    Airborne Pyrotechnics
